Visual Design
A coherent message
People often say “Design is the icing on the cake.” I say “Sure, but first it’s the grease on the axle.” Of course design has to do with the look and feel, but in the world of product and software development, the first obligation of design is to ensure the thing works well. Design should be informed by research into customers, tasks and context. If we know who we’re serving, what their objectives are and the context within which they operate, we’ll be much better equipped to create designs that are effective and engaging.
